Most hearing aids now give a warning signal which is audible to the wearer when the battery power is diminished, informing the wearer to change the battery as soon as possible.
There are a few crucial points to note when changing a battery:
- Your new battery should have a sticker on it; you must remove it before putting the battery in.
- Before placing the battery inside the hearing aid make sure that the “+” sign on the battery is aligned correctly with the “+” sign on the inside of the battery case. The batteries have a plus sign and a negative sign and they must be correct.
- Never force your hearing aid shut, if there is a problem the battery may have been inserted the wrong way round.
- Check that it is functioning once the new battery is fitted, a common way to check that it is amplifying sound is to cup it in your hand and the aid should whistle, otherwise known as feedback.
